Water treatment

Ozone for drinking water.

We integrate ozone generation with existing treatment stages to address defined oxidation, disinfection, taste, odor or color objectives.

The application

From source to tap: choose the ozone stage.

Drinking-water treatment starts with raw-water quality. Color, organics, metals, odor and microorganisms do not create the same demand. The ozone point belongs within the entire plant, alongside clarification, filtration and storage.

Ozone may support several stages, but it does not maintain a long residual. Protection after the plant is planned separately for the distribution system and applicable requirements.

Treatment options

Three locations, three different objectives.

One generator does not automatically serve all three purposes. Dose, contact and measurement are specified for the stage the project actually needs.

Before clarification

Preoxidation may change color or other oxidizable substances and support later treatment. Its effect on coagulation and byproducts needs checking.

Between filtration stages

An intermediate stage is assessed for its effect on filters and remaining compounds. Measure the response of actual water.

Before supply

A final stage can support disinfection; define contact time, off-gas control and downstream protection in the network.

Specific applications

Where ozone fits in drinking water.

Compare source water, intermediate treatment and needs before distribution. Each stage has a different objective and control.

Community drinking water

In small utilities and community systems, ozone can oxidize substances associated with color, taste or odor and support disinfection within a complete treatment train.

Start with raw-water analyses, peak flow, existing filtration and the health objective. Size gas preparation, generation, mixing, contact, off-gas destruction and monitoring. Ozone does not provide a lasting distribution residual; downstream protection must be planned separately.

How to verify: Compare inlet and outlet water quality, flow, applied dose and contact conditions across operating changes.

Bottled water

Water disinfection before filling requires a controlled dose and stable inlet quality. Ozonation is integrated with filtration, storage and filling.

Review water source, remineralization, ozone demand, contact time and point of use. Dissolved-ozone measurement and alarms support control; materials, packaging and final quality must fit the process.

How to verify: Record microbiology, dissolved ozone, flow and finished-water results under the plant quality plan.

Decision criteria

What to check in drinking-water treatment

Before sizing

An odor problem in water does not necessarily share the cause of a microbiological problem. Inlet analysis guides the treatment sequence and whether ozone is used for oxidation, disinfection or both. What follows the ozone contact stage matters as well.

How to verify the approach

Agree on inlet and outlet parameters, design flows, sampling points and operating controls. Drinking water must meet applicable requirements; ozone alone does not replace assessment of the complete treatment train.
